Nigerian government urged to support agriculture
font size

The Nigerian government has been urged to continue its tariff policy to protect agriculture as it works towards a zero tariff regime.

The Nigeria Economic Summit Group made the call in a communique issued on Friday here at the end of its two-day fifth agricultural summit.

Participants of the meeting urged the government to progressively increase their budgetary allocations for the agricultural sector. They called for an increase of the allocation from present two percent to five percent, and 10 percent in the next three years.

They urged governments at all levels to incorporate monitoring and evaluation indices into agricultural policies, as well as work out a framework to make research findings available to farmers.
