Anniversary of late non-communist party leader markedA workshop was held at the Great Hall of the People, in central Beijing, on Friday, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of late non-communist party leader Sun Xiaocun. Sun was vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and chairman of the Central Committee of the China National Democratic Construction Association, one of China's eight non-communist parties. He was also a renowned rural economist. Liu Yandong, vice chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), called Sun an "outstanding patriot" and a "revolutionary intellectual who walked from the old society into New China." In her speech, Liu, who is also director of the United Front Department of the CPC Central Committee, praised Sun's contribution to the undertakings of the United Front and multiparty cooperation under CPC's leadership. Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, attended the meeting. Other speakers were Zhang Rongming, Wan Guoquan, Cheng Shi'e as well as Sun's granddaughter Sun Yangsheng, and Sun Qimeng,. Also present were He Luli, Huang Mengfu, Wang Guangying, and Sun Fuling.
