Bai Keming elected Party chief of north China's Hebei Province

Bai Keming was elected secretary of the Hebei Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Tuesday.

Bai, 63, was elected to the post at the first session of the 7th CPC Hebei Provincial Committee held in Shijiazhuang, the provincial capital.

Bai, a native of Jingbian County in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, graduated from the Military Engineering Institute of the People's Liberation Army, or the current Harbin Engineering University, in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province.

He joined the CPC in 1975.

Between June 2000 and August 2001, he worked as president of People's Daily.

Bai was appointed secretary of the Hainan Provincial Committee of the CPC in August 2001 and then was appointed secretary of the CPC Hebei Provincial Committee in November 2002.

Bai is a member of the 16th CPC Central Committee.
