Chinese State Councilor says China important in international relations

On November 13, Tang Jiaxuan explained the current international situation and China's diplomatic work to those present at the eighth congress of the Chinese Federation of Literary and Art Circles (CFLAC) and the seventh congress of the Chinese Writers Association (CWA) in Beijing.

"The international situation, often characterized by a wide range of complicated conflicts, is unstable and currently going through a period of adjustment. With the striking rise of China's status in the international arena and its rapid development, China will have a closer relationship with the world, and significantly influence the development of the international structure.

"Meanwhile, Chinese development is also affected by complicated external factors, both opportunities and challenges. We should take a scientific and objective approach to the development of the international situation.

"China should continue to take the road of peaceful development; promote exchange and cooperation with countries on the basis of mutual benefit and development; promote the building of a harmonious world; advocate respect for a country's right to choose their own social system and path to development; support diversity in the world and ensure that all countries' have an equal right to participate in international affairs; encourage the settlement of international disputes and conflict by dialogue and negotiation; and promote economic cooperation among and between regions to encourage the harmonious development of civilization and the economy."
