Senior Chinese official urges writers, artists to contribute to harmonius culture

Senior Chinese official Li Changchun has called for writers and artists to contribute to the prosperity of advanced socialist culture and the building of the country's harmonious culture.

The key task for Chinese writers and artists is to study and carry out the guidelines put forward at the sixth plenary session of the 16th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to contribute to building a harmonious society, Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said at a gathering of Chinese artists and and literary workers.

He said artists and writers should fully reflect real life in their works to encourage people and promote social progress.

The five-day meeting -- the 8th Congress of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles (CFLAC) and the 7th Congress of the Chinese Writers Association (CWS)-- has attracted more than 3,000 people including Chinese artists from China's mainland and Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao, and from abroad.

The CFLAC and the CWS, with 420,000 members and 7,700 members respectively, are two leading organizations in China's art and literary circles.
