Chinese goods turn up in Uruguay after alleged fraud

Goods worth 27 million yuan (3.37 million U.S. dollars), which were allegedly fraudulently acquired from 136 small Chinese businesses have been recovered -- in Uruguay.

Chinese police who discovered the goods in 26 containers in Uruguay returned them to their owners on Thursday in Yiwu city, Zhejiang province,China's largest distributing center for small commodities.

In late March, an unregistered export and import company signed contracts with 136 small commodities businesses to buy their goods valued at 27 million yuan.

The company vanished, allegedly without paying the businesses, according to the Ministry of Public Security.

Police in Yiwu arrested company executive Mo Rongyong in south China's Guangdong province shortly after. Mo allegedly confessed that he had cheated the businesse owners.

After learning the good had been exported in March, Yiwu police headed by the MPS officials arrived in Uruguay to trace them.

Mo has been referred to the procuratorate for prosecution.
