Singapore's growth of non-oil domestic exports (NODX) expanded by a weaker 3.8 percent in October 2006 as compared with the same month of last year, due to a decline in electronic NODX and slower growth of non-electronic NODX.
According to the figures released by the International Enterprise Singapore (IE Singapore) on Friday, the exports of
electronic products contracted by 2.6 percent in October over the previous year while the exports of non-electronic products grew by 11 percent in the same month.
The NODX to the top 10 NODX markets continued to grow in October, except for Indonesia, China, Chinese Taiwan province and Japan. Among the top 10 NODX markets, the United States, the European Union and Malaysia made the largest contributions to NODX growth in the month.
The NODX to the United States increased for the eighth consecutive month of double-digit growth by 22 percent in October year-on-year while the NODX to the European Union expanded by 4.4 percent in the same month.
The NODX to China declined by 8.2 percent year-on-year in October after growing by 9.2 percent in the preceding month because of lower electronic and non-electronic NODX.
Singapore's total trade reached 67 billion Singapore dollars ( about 42.9 billion U.S. dollars) in October, contracted mildly by 0.4 percent over the same month of 2005.
