font size

Beijing began work on the largest aircraft maintenance hangar in Asia at the Beijing Capital International Airport on Friday.

The 64,000-square meter hangar, north of Terminal 2, can accommodate four Airbus A380 planes, or two Airbus A380 and four Boeing-747 planes at the same time, according to the Beijing Construction Engineering Group.

The project was undertaken by the Beijing Aircraft Maintenance and Engineering Corporation (Ameco Beijing) and a joint venture between Air China and Lufthansa at a cost of 412 million yuan (52 million U.S. dollars).

The project will be completed in March 2008 and has been listed as one of the construction projects for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
