APEC CEO closes summit after exchanging FDI drawing experiences

The two-day APEC CEO Summit closed Saturday in Hanoi after leaders and executives exchanged successful experiences of attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) and economic development.

Over 1,000 representatives from leading multi-national corporations of the Asia-Pacific region attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Summit.

Several APEC leaders addressed the meeting, calling for joint efforts to re-start the Doha round negotiations at the World Trade Organization for freer trade and investment and presented ideas of economic policy making.

They also emphasized the importance of national security in creating a favorable environment for foreign investors and the cooperation among developing countries in attracting FDI.

Incepted in 1996, the annual APEC CEO Summit is the biggest event of the business community of the region.

The summit was officially recognized as a sideline event of the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and gained its current name at the leaders' meeting in Auckland in 1999.

The 14th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting started here Saturday and will be closed Sunday.
