Tokyo stocks move little
font size

Tokyo stocks moved little Tuesday as Monday's sharp falls failed to spark a strong round of buying due to investors' wariness over the course of the Japanese economy.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 8.20 points, or 0.05 percent, to end at 15,734.14.

The broader Tokyo Stock Price Index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 0.99 point, or 0.06 percent, to 1,532.95.

Mizuho Financial Group, one of Japan's three mega banking groups, was the most heavily traded issue by value, falling 18,000 yen to 805,000 yen despite its brisk midterm earnings in the April- September period, released Monday.

Isuzu Motors was the day's volume leader, up 4 yen to 504 yen.

On the First Section, 1,009 issues declined against 583 advancing, with 116 ending the day unchanged.

Trading volume on the main section decreased to 1,649.24 million shares from Monday's 1,939.41 million shares.

The TSE's Second Section index fell 26.58 points, or 0.67 percent, to 3,915.09 on a volume of 52.65 million shares. On the Osaka Securities Exchange, the near-term December Nikkei 225 index futures contract declined 20 points to 15,700.
