FM spokesperson: China hopes Mexico can maintain stability
font size

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu said on Tuesday that China has noted the situation in Mexico, and hoped stability would be maintained.

Jiang said China and Mexico have friendly relations. The Chinese government and people sincerely hoped Mexico could maintain stability.

Felipe Calderon, of the ruling National Action Party, won the July 2 presidential election and will take office on Dec. 1.

Defeated presidential candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, of the left-wing For the Good of All Coalition, was sworn in as Mexico's "legitimate president" on Monday, in a move aimed at keeping Calderon from governing.
