Chinese State Councilor Chen Zhili called for further promotion of educational cooperation between China and Singapore, describing it as an important component in Sino-Singaporean relations.

She made the remarks in a meeting with Singaporean Minister of Education Tharman Shanmugaratnam and members of the Khoo Teck Puat Fund on Tuesday.

She also expressed gratitude for the donation from the Khoo Teck Puat fund for building a new gymnasium and a table tennis arena for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Khoo Tech Puat was a Singaporean banker. His children distribute the fund he left to medical treatment, health care and education causes, according to his wishes.
