HK Customs cracks 15 drug trafficking cases

Hong Kong Customs cracked 15 cases of transnational drug trafficking this month and seized about 30 kilograms of high-grade heroin with a value about 1.79 million U.S. dollars, the Customs said Monday.

According to the Commissioner of Customs and Excise Timothy Tong, the Hong Kong Customs launched an operation codenamed "Moon-cracker" and cracked 15 cases of high-grade heroin trafficking at the Hong Kong International Airport from Nov. 5 to 19. The authority arrested 15 suspects involving in internal drug concealment.

Secretary for Security Ambrose Lee attributed the success to remarkable efforts of Hong Kong Customs and intelligence cooperation between Hong Kong and mainland Customs.

Customs officers said Hong Kong is conveniently located in the region with excellent international transport links and criminals attempt to make use of the facilities for drug trafficking.

However, they said the success of Hong Kong Customs send an important message to drug traffickers that the city will not be exploited as a transit point for international drug trafficking.
