Hong Xuezhi, formerly deputy secretary general and member of the Central Military Commission and director and political commissar of China's People's Liberation Army General Logistics Department, died aged 94 in Beijing on Monday.
Hong joined the revolution in March 1929 and the Communist Party of China two months later. He was accorded the rank of general in 1955. When China instituted new military ranks in September 1988, he retained the rank of general, the highest rank.
Hong was also vice chairman of the 7th and 8th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committees.
An official obituary said Hong was an excellent CPC member, a long-tested faithful Communist fighter and a proletarian revolutionary and military strategist.
