President Hu's speech, marking 140th anniversary of Sun Yat-sen's birth, published in several languagesChinese President Hu Jintao's recent speech commemorating the 140th anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's birth has been published in Mongolian, Tibetan, Uygur, Kazak and Korean. The ethnic-language versions of Hu's speech were translated by the China Bureau of Ethnic Language Translation and published nationwide by the Ethnic Publishing House. Hu, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, delivered the speech at a gathering to mark the 140th anniversary of Sun's birth here on November 12. Dr. Sun, forerunner of China's democratic revolution, was born in 1866 in Xiangshan County (now Zhongshan City) in south China's Guangdong Province and died of illness in Beijing on March 12, 1925. Sun is regarded as a great man for his leadership over the 1911 revolution to overthrow China's last feudalistic dynasty of Qing (1644-1911), his advocacy of cooperation between the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) and the Communist Party of China (CPC), his first call for "Rejuvenating China", among others.
