Belgium starts selling bio-dieselGas stations of petroleum giant Total started to sell bio-diesel to drivers across Belgium, making it the first company in the country to sell the environment-friendly fuel, local media reported on Friday. Local press said the bio-diesel was produced by Oleon, the first Belgian company allowed to produce diesel from agricultural products. Oleon is one of four Belgian companies capable of producing bio-diesel, which is suitable for all motor-vehicles running on regular diesel. The company's director anticipates a progressive increase of bio-diesel sales, 3.37 percent of the market in 2006, 4.29 percent in 2007 and at least 5.75 percent requested by the EU by 2010. Bruno Tobback, Belgium's environment minister, explained that bio-diesel would not only benefit Belgian farmers and drivers, but also help reach the Kyoto convention goals and ultimately help reduce pollution.
