font size

Zimbabwe is on the verge of sealing a 150 million U.S. dollars deal with a Russian firm, Turbo Engineering, under which the company will facilitate the construction of 17 mini-hydro electricity power stations in different parts of the country, The Sunday Mail reported.

Zesa (Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority) Holdings general manager Obert Nyatanga revealed that the initiative was part of a broad range of projects that are lined up to mitigate current and anticipated electricity shortage.

He said the two partners had already deliberated on the framework and principle interest areas with the parastatal expecting to have registered the company in the next two weeks.

The deal would then be signed next month before the construction of the power stations begins in January next year, he said.

According to the framework, the initiative will be carried out in four phases with the first expected to begin in January.
