Organization for Prohibition Against Chemical Weapons said here Monday that it is working to make a code of conduct for scientists who use and apply chemistry.
"The scientific community has the know-how, it could play a major role in ensuring their work is not a disservice and is not available to those who are pursuing means that are contrary to peace and security in the world," director-general of the international watchdog against chemical weapons Rogelio Pfirter was quoted by Channel NewsAsia as saying.
The watchdog wants to make the code a key part of the chemistry curriculum in educational institutions to prevent those with the knowledge from using it for the wrong cause, Channel NewsAsia said.
Some 450 scientists, civil and military personnel from 38 countries, will attend a symposium on battling toxic substances over the next few days in Singapore.
