The military attaches of foreign embassies in Beijing held a banquet Friday to celebrate their cooperation with the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA).

Qian Lihua, deputy director of the Foreign Affairs Office of China's Ministry of National Defense, praised the positive role played by foreign military attaches, collectively known as the Beijing Military Attache Corps, in promoting military exchanges.

The PLA would continue to cooperate with foreign military attaches to expand military ties in the hope of contributing to the peace, prosperity and harmony of the region and the world at large.

Labo Bouche Issaka, head of the corps and defence attache with the Nigerian embassy, said many achievements had been made through exchanges this year.

"We have seen greater cooperation on military fields between China and our countries," Labo said, saying he hoped the cooperation would grow "from strength to strength."

Labo also stated concerns over threats like terrorism and nuclear weapons and called on all countries to formulate a strategy to preserve peace and stability.

Liang Guanglie, chief of the General Staff of the PLA, attended the banquet along with more than 100 foreign military attaches and their wives.
