India's state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) received the first cargo of crude oil from Russia's Sakhalin 1 oil and gas field Friday, Indo-Asian News Service reported.
The 672,000 barrels of crude oil reached Mangalore, a harbor in south Indian state Karnataka, on Friday from the Russian oil field in which the ONGC holds 20 percent stake, said an ONGC official.
The ONGC will receive four cargoes from the Sakhalin oil field and it plans to bring two to India and sell the rest two in international market, the source said.
The second cargo is expected to come later this month.
The ONGC will be processing the Sakhalin crude in its subsidiary Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL).
The Indian oil giant holds stakes or participating interests in 26 projects across 15 countries.
