Biggest sugar factory starts sugarcane crushing works in Nepal
font size

Indushankar Sugar Factory, which produces the biggest amount of sugar in Nepal, has started sugarcane crushing works, the National News Agency RSS reported on Sunday.

The factory has the capacity to crush 3 million kg of sugarcane per day and is expected to crush 300 million kg of sugarcane this year, General Manager of the factory Vijaykanta Jha told the RSS.

In the past years, the factory production was disrupted following a dispute over the price rate of sugarcane.

However, this year, the price of sugarcane would be fixed after the factory resume its production smoothly, said secretary of the Sugarcane Producers' Association Raj Kumar Upreti.

Farmers of over 100,000 households in Sarlahi district, some 400 southeast of Kathmandu, rely on sugarcane cultivation for their livelihood.
