Nepal should go for federal system: CPN

Prachanda, chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) (formerly known as guerrilla), has said that Nepal should go for federal system with autonomy and right to self-determinism of all oppressed communities while restructuring the state, local daily The Himalayan Times reported on Sunday.

"People took part in the people's movement in April this year to put an end to centralized feudal state and create a state in which everyone can have their say," the English language newspaper quoted Prachanda as saying.

But in a concern over the peace agreement that has not spoken about autonomy, federalism and right to self-determinism, he said they failed to include those issues because that was more a document of compromise.

"We had to compromise immediately just to defeat the actors who were playing to prevent the signing of peace agreement," he added.

Prachanda also made it clear that there would be 40 percent representation of women in the upcoming interim parliament from his party.
