Nepal bridge between China and India: official
font size

A senior official of the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) has called for efforts to develop Nepal as a bridge between China and India, The Himalayan Times reported on Monday.

"Nepal needs to develop itself like a bridge between China and India, that are on course to become global economic superpowers," said CPN Second-in-command Dr Baburam Bhattarai.

On Nepal's future economic course in light of its membership to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the regional economic organizations, he said that Nepal must negotiate harder to safeguard its interests.

On the role of donors in Nepal, Bhattarai said: "They must take a secondary role in the economic scheme of things, while Nepal does away with its dependency on others and takes charge of its own fortune".
