Euro hits fresh record high in Tokyo

The euro climbed to another record high against the yen Monday in Tokyo in line with the U.S. dollar's recovery versus the yen after the U.S. currency fell into the 114 yen range for the first time in four months Friday in New York.

In the early afternoon, the single European currency briefly rose as high as 154.18 yen, an all-time high since being introduced in 1999, renewing its previous record of 154.11 yen fetched Friday in New York.

At 5 p.m., the dollar was quoted at 115.59-62 yen, compared with Friday's 5 p.m. quotes of 115.39-49 yen in New York and 115. 85-88 yen in Tokyo.

It moved between 115.10 yen and 115.84 yen in the day, trading most frequently at 115.58 yen.

The euro was quoted at 1.3307-3310 dollars and 153.85-89 yen, against Friday's 5 p.m. quotes of 1.3331-3341 dollars and 153.93- 154.03 yen in New York and 1.3270-3273 dollars and 153.76-80 yen in Tokyo.
