A reception was held on Wednesday in Beijing to mark the 35th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Cyprus.

"The celebration offers a golden opportunity to renew our commitment to further strengthening the excellent relations between Cyprus and China," visiting President of Cyprus Tassos Papadopoulos told the reception.

Papadopoulos's five-day state visit to China coincided with the 35th anniversary of China-Cyprus diplomatic relationship, which was forged on Dec. 14, 1971.

He also thanked China for its "staunch support to the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Cyprus."

Uyunqimg, vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, said she believes that both sides will take the 35th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties as a new starting point to push the China-Cyprus cooperation to a new high.
