font size

The Shanghai municipal government held a ceremony here Wednesday placing a plaque on an apartment of the deceased patriotic revolutionary Du Chongyuan.

Chinese President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Jia Qinglin, and Vice President Zeng Qinghong sent floral baskets to the ceremony.

In a congratulatory letter sent by the United Front Work Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central committee, Du was lauded as an outstanding patriot, a valiant warrior for democracy and a close friend of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Du (1897-1943) was an active player in organizing activities opposing Japanese invasion in the 1930s and early 1940s. He was killed by warlords in the northwest Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in 1943.
