font size

Macao's Commission Against Corruption (CAC) issued a press release here on Friday, briefing on the details of the corruption case involving a former high-profile government official.

The release said Ao Man Long, former Secretary for Transport and Public Works, and 11 other suspects including a number of the official's relatives, have been apprehended Wednesday.

Those have been detained included the owner, general manager and chief accountant of a local construction company, which have been conducting a number of major construction projects, said the release.

It added that the suspects were allegedly involved in cases of bribery, bribe taking and money laundering.

It said the CAC launched a 150-hour investigation on Ao over the past week based on a tip-off, accusing him of taking bribe through power abusing.

After analyzing a number of financial documents, the CAC conducted searches in some suspicious business, residence and public office sites, said the release, adding that cash, estate contracts and other evidence has been obtained during the searches.

It said the suspects have allegedly used overseas financial systems and companies to launder their illegal income.

Hong Kong's Independent Commission Against Corruption has jointed efforts in the investigations, said the release.

It said more details will possibly be revealed in the near future.
