ITU expo brings 900 mln HKD revenueSecretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology Joseph Wong said Friday ITU (International Telecom Union) Telecom World 2006 will generate 900 million HK dollars (115.38 million U.S. dollars) for Hong Kong's coffers. After the event closed Friday, Wong said the expo has generated about 400 million HK dollars (51.28 million U.S dollars) for the hotel industry, and the average hotel occupancy rate during the exhibition period was about 90 percent. He expected there are much more wider benefits to Hong Kong. " For example, this event has highlighted the importance of Hong Kong in organizing one of the biggest exhibition and conference events," he said. Hong Kong is a partner to the Chinese mainland in helping the other companies all over the world to enter and to do business in the mainland so far as ICT (international and communication technology) is concerned for China is a huge and growing ICT market. All these will no doubt bring much fundamental and much longer-term benefits to Hong Kong, Wong said. Source: Xinhua |
