China's top trade union leader has called on Chinese workers to play an active role in building a harmonious society.
Trade unions at all levels should highlight the protection of workers' economic interests, such as employment, income distribution, social security as well as work safety and hygiene, said Wang Zhaoguo, president of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU), at a plenum of the ACFTU executive commission here Saturday.
He said the difficulties of migrant rural laborers, laid-off workers and destitute employees should be on top of the agenda of trade unions.
Major measures concerning the reform of state-owned enterprises must be reviewed and approved by the employees' representative conference, Wang noted.
Formally founded on May 1, 1925, the ACFTU is the world's largest union in terms of membership, with 150 million members and 1.174 million branches by July.
