Hong Kong EC Subsector Election held

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Election Committee (EC) Subsector Elections started Sunday morning.

A total of 803 candidates are competing for 427 seats in 23 contested subsectors/sub-subsector at the polls.

One hundred and ten polling stations across Hong Kong will be open until 10:30 p.m. local time on Sunday for about 204,000 registered voters in the contested subsectors/sub-subsector to cast their votes.

As of at 4:30 p.m. local time, 31,070 voters have turned up to cast their votes, bringing the cumulative turnout rate to 15.18 percent.

The would-be members of the Election Committee will take office on Feb. 1, 2007 and elect the new Chief Executive for the next term on March 25.
