The Chinese government has revoked or modified more than 2,000 legal documents and regulations in line with the requirement of its accession to the World Trade Organization, a senior commerce official said on Monday.

Zhang Xiangchen, director of the Department of the WTO Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce said the reform that started in 1999 had improved China's legal environment for business and trade.

Wu Hao, a senior official with the Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council, said the reform triggered by China's entry to WTO was "sweeping and crucial".

He said that the transparency of legislative work had also improved.

China has also updated all laws and regulations concerning the protection of intellectual property rights, Zhang noted.
