Taiwan opposition parties block arms purchase budget bill
font size

Taiwan's Nationalist Party and the People First Party on Tuesday once again blocked a review of Taiwan's arms budget in the island's legislature.

The two parties, with a majority in the 218-member "Legislative Yuan", have now blocked the review of the special budget proposed by the Taiwan authorities more than 60 times, arguing that it is too costly and overly provocative.

The weapons package involves an 18-billion-dollar budget that would allow Taiwan to buy weapons from the United States. The Chinese mainland has repeatedly protested against such sales.
