South Korea to finance Zanzibar agricultural project
font size

A senior diplomat from South Korea embassy in Dar es Salaam has clarified to this news agency that it was his country instead of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) that has promised to finance an agricultural project in Zanzibar.

Counsellor Hyukwoon Kwon told Xinhua Tuesday in Dar es Salaam that during the meeting between Republic of Korea Ambassador Soon Chun Lee and President of Zanzibar Aman Abeid Karume on Dec. 3 in the Zanzibar State House, the Republic of Korea promised to finance an irrigation project in the Indian Ocean archipelago to the tune of 1 million U.S. dollars.

An earlier Xinhua dispatch sent from Stone Town of Zanzibar by a local correspondent mistook the names of the two countries.

The Zanzibar president expressed his gratitude through the visiting ambassador to the Republic of Korea for the Asian country's assistance in boosting the development of the agricultural sector in the isles.
