Shanghai Baosteel Group has recently developed the world's strongest pipeline steel, known as X120, making Baosteel the fourth manufacturer in the world to trial production of X120 pipeline steel.
With the increasing use of natural gas, the demand for gas transportation pipeline has now exceeded that of pipeline for oil and other liquids. As most natural gas fields are located in the desert, Arctic permafrost areas, the ocean, and other remote areas, the need for reliable pipeline steel for gas transportation is great. A stronger pipeline with reduced thickness and diameter can actually be made without affecting transportation security. This represents a significant saving on the amount of steel used in the long-distance gas pipelines and reduces the cost of construction and welding. To this end, pipeline steel manufacturers have been making great efforts to improve pipeline steel strength over the last two or three decades. X120 is currently the strongest steel pipeline in the world.
