Former U.S. President George H. W. Bush on Thursday said China is playing a constructive role in the world, and the United States and China should join hands to form a sound global community.
Addressing a forum during his visit to Beijing, Bush said China and the United States share common interests in aspects including trade, security, economy and disaster relief.
A "clear message" is, Bush said, "there is something more important than politics."
He said U.S.-China relationship has entered a "best stage" with the two countries experiencing "friendship and respect", and it is important for them to work together to mutually develop and solve problems.
Mentioning security issues, Bush said the two countries are standing together in opposition to proliferation of nuclear weapons.
