James Morris, the Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP)said at a news conference that China has made great contributions to poverty alleviation.
Over the last 20 odd years, China has lifted hundreds of millions of people out of poverty, an enormous contribution to world efforts to reduce poverty. Morris highlighted the Chinese government's promises on debt relief and an expanded aid program to Africa during the recent Beijing Summit. China remains a major participant in the World Food Programme (WFP).
At the news conference, Morris also appealed to the international community to give special attention to African orphans affected by Aids.
