Macao's future promising: CPPCC leaderLiu Yandong, vice chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said Thursday that Macao's future will be promising under the good administration. While addressing the welcome dinner hosted by the government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR), Liu said that Macao's practice since its return to the motherland has been a proof of the success of the principle of "One country, Two systems. " The official recalled her first tour in Macao in 1999, when she witnessed Macao's return to China. "I eyed a prosperous, beautiful and energetic new Macao seven years after my first visit, " she said. The Basic Law and the principle of "One Country, Two Systems" are the best and the fundamental guarantee of the region's development, Liu said. She hailed Macao for the stable society and the betterment of people's living conditions. All walks of social life here have reached a consensus to build a harmonious society, Liu said. She added that all achievements are due to the successful administration under Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the MASR, and his government with the support of the central government. Liu said the speedy development of China provides Macao with new opportunities, and Ho and his government will surely usher the region into a more prosperous future. MASR Chief Executive Ho delivered a welcome speech at the dinner party, saying Liu's visit is a demonstration of the central government's support and solicitude for Macao. He said the effective implementation of the principles of "One Country, Two Systems," "Macao people governs Macao" and the high autonomy cement a strong ground for the building of a harmonious society here. Liu met with Ho prior to the welcome dinner. Liu arrived here Wednesday to attend the Overseas Chinese World Conference for Promoting Peaceful Reunification of China 2006 ( Macao), which is launched annually by overseas Chinese pro- reunification organizations worldwide.
