The Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) (formerly known as guerrilla) reconfigured its structure set up during civil war, a CPN official said Thursday.

"We changed the war-time structure of the party as per the decision of the party to join the mainstream of politics." CPN spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara told a press conference here.

The move is meant to get CPN adapted to peaceful activities after the 11-year-long conflict seems to have ended.

After the 4-day central committee meeting, CPN decided to set up central, regional, and zonal political bureaus.

In the central level, CPN chairman Prachanda is to lead a 11- member central secretariat and an information department, Dr. Baburam Bhattarai will head the people's council, spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara is to lead the parliamentary front and Dev Gurung the racial front.

Besides chairman Prachanda, Mohan Baidya aka Kiran, Dr Baburam Bhattrai, Dev Gurung and spokesperson Mahara, the CPN central secretariat includes five regional commands and one international command's chiefs.
