As many as five district headquarters are likely to be linked by the road network within the current fiscal year, local Kantipur daily reported on Monday.
The district headquarters of the remote districts including Kalikot, Jumla, Bhojpur, Jajarkot and Sankhubasbha are most likely to be connected this year, according to the vernacular newspaper. The Department of Road ( DoR), Local Development Ministry and Nepali Army are carrying out the construction works to connect those districts.
The government had announced to link district centers of Kalikot and Jumla by mid-January 2007 and to connect additional five districts headquarters during the announcement of fiscal budget in July this year. There are still more than a dozen district centers untouched by road network.
Durga Bahadur K.C, director general of the DoR said that the works were being carried out with the aim of connecting those districts centers by the current fiscal year. "But, it depends on timely budgetary allocation," he added.
There will be no problem to connect Kalikot and Jumla headquarters shortly, if the explosives are used to clear the cliffy hills along the way, according to the DoR. In the past, the government failed to take explosives there due to conflict situation and construction work could not move ahead.
Likewise, most of the construction works in the road connecting Bhojpur district headquarters have also completed, according to the daily.
