Ukraine demands no change in prices of Turkmen gas supplies

Ukrainian Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovitch said on Sunday that he hoped Turkmenistan would not change the prices of gas supplies to his country.

He made the remarks after meeting with Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister Kurbanmurat Atayev, who is also Turkmenistan's oil and gas minister.

Yanukovitch said Turkmenistan will export 38 billion cubic meters of gas to Ukraine in 2007 at the agreed price of 100 U.S. dollars per 1,000 cubic meters plus 25 dollars of transit fee.

The Ukrainian prime minister was in the Turkmen capital of Ashgabat to attend the funeral of Turkmenistan's late president Saparmurat Niyazov, who died of heart failure early Thursday.

Turkmenistan, a gas-rich Central Asian nation, is a major gas supplier of Ukraine.
