Malaysia stock market to re-install rules on short shelling

The Malaysia Stock Exchange would re-introduce Regulated Short Selling (RSS) and Securities Borrowing and Lending (SBL) beginning on Jan. 3 next year for 70 selective stocks.

The measure would provides a new perspective of the Malaysian capital market, according to a statement released recently by Bursa Malaysia Bhd, a local exchange holding company operating a fully integrated exchange and the complete range of exchange- related services.

The RSS and SBL is in fact acknowledged by domestic and international investors as one of the features of a developed stock market, the Malaysian stock exchange operator said.

It hoped that the move would enhance liquidity and the overall vibrancy of the Malaysian stock market.
