The U.N. Security Council resolution on Iran's nuclear program fully reflects the economic interests of Russia and other partners of Iran, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday.

Lavrov, speaking at a cabinet meeting, said that the approval of the resolution called for finding a balance of three objectives -- to prevent the violation of the nonproliferation regime, maintain conditions for talks with Iran, and prevent damage to any legitimate ties with Iran, Russian news agencies reported.

"The resolution is a compromise, of course, but all three objectives were reached," Lavrov was quoted by the Interfax news agency as telling President Vladimir Putin at the meeting.

The resolution, adopted unanimously on Saturday at the U.N. Security Council, demanded Iran to suspend all enrichment-related and reprocessing activities and work on all heavy water-related projects.

It also called on all states to impose a ban on trade with Iran in goods related to its nuclear programs and ballistic missile delivery systems.

Lavrov said the resolution provides for "blocking all channels that could be used to feed the aspects of the Iranian nuclear program that concern the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency)," but Iran's activities relating to lawful trade, economic and other ties can continue.
