China's lawmakers on Monday unanimously agreed to table the draft property law to the fifth plenary session of the Tenth National People's Congress (NPC) for deliberation, because the draft is now ripe.

During the panel discussion, lawmakers agreed that the draft law, which "moves toward the correct political direction" and reflects national realities, conforms to China's fundamental economic system.

Lawmakers agreed that the draft, after being revised several times and benefiting from public comments, is clearer and more mature.

Li Lianning, member of the NPC Standing Committee, said the fact that the draft has gone through an unprecedented seven readings illustrates the democratic spirit in the country's legislative work.

Zhu Xiangyuan, member of the NPC Standing Committee, said the property law supports the building of a harmonious socialist society, because people who have permanent property are more eager to have a stable society.

The draft property law, a sweeping bill designed to protect both public and private ownership, has undergone more reviews than any other bill by the NPC Standing Committee, China's top legislature.
