font size

The Chinese mainland has expressed its willingness to discuss the possibility of free convertibility of the RMB in Taiwan.

At Wednesday's press conference of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, one reporter commented that the Taiwan authorities had indicated they would allow free convertibility of RMB in Taiwan. In addition, the mainland had experimented with converting the New Taiwan Dollar in certain parts of Fujian province.

The reporter asked whether the mainland planned to expand the areas where the New Taiwan Dollar and RMB could be converted.

"We have always been positive about financial cooperation across the Taiwan Straits and are willing to encourage financial associations on both sides to hold talks," said Li.
