A senior Chinese official on Wednesday called on higher education institutions to ensure the development of Communist Party of China (CPC) organizations on campus to help create a harmonious society.

Liu Yunshan, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, lectured colleges and universities on the "importance of building a harmonious society".

"Such a cause, a long-term strategic task, requires ideological and political education and depends on Party organizations to transform it into reality," he said.
