China to issue white paper on national defense

A senior official with the Information Office of the State Council on Thursday said the Chinese government will on Friday issue a white paper reviewing China's national defense situation in 2006.

Cai Wu, director of the Information Office of the State Council, said at a press conference that the white paper will provide a comprehensive picture of China's national defense and military modernization drive over the last two years.

It is China's fifth white paper on national defense since 1998.
