Ambassadors' New Year Greetings

A number of foreign ambassadors in China have sent New Year messages to the People's Daily Online and its readers, expressing their warm greetings and best wishes for 2007.

Australian Ambassador Alan Thomas

Since the commencement of diplomatic relations, the bilateral relationship has broadened and deepened considerably. This has been apparent in the number of high-level visits we continue to have in both directions. In 2006, Premier Wen Jiabao visited Australia and, in turn hosted Australian Prime Minister John Howard when he came to China to receive the first commercial shipment of Australian Liquefied Natural Gas at the Dapeng terminal in Guangdong province. Our long-term minerals and energy partnership continues to be the bedrock of our economic relationship.

This relationship has been further broadened and strengthened by the signing, during Premier Wen's visit to Australia in April 2006, of bilateral treaties on nuclear transfers and nuclear cooperation which may pave the way to future uranium exports to China to help it to meet its energy needs in a way that does not increase global greenhouse gas emissions.Full Text

Canada and China enjoy a dynamic and comprehensive relationship, one that is unique and vital, and on which Canada wants to build, further strengthening ties to the mutual benefit of people from both countries. Our two nations have a lot to share and exchange in sectors such as agriculture, energy, transportation, public policy & governance, academic research, culture and sports. As

China and Canada will successively and respectively host the Summer Olympic Games in 2008 in Beijing and the Winter Olympics Games in 2010 in Vancouver/Whistler, this provides a great opportunity for both nations to collaborate and exchange best practices. Full Text

Ambassador of European Commission Serge Abou
Over the last more than two decades, EU-China relations have developed to create an increasingly close partnership. Establishment of our diplomatic relation in 1975, and subsequent agreements and advances have led to relations in diverse fields, as well as more and more intense cooperation.

During this time period, both the European Union and China have progressed immensely. This is why many of us feel, in China and in Europe, that the partnership should be the subject of deep reflection with regards to what has been accomplished, what has worked well, and what has worked less well, in order to draw lessons for the futureFull Text
