Chinese State Councilor Hua Jianmin on Sunday stressed the importance of expertise in the country's emergency response system.
"Experts and scholars have made great contribution in handling various emergencies, so the establishment of a special expert group is quite necessary in enhancing the competence of emergency response," he said.
Hua made the remarks at a meeting of national emergency response expert team which comprises 40 specialists excelled in natural disasters, accidents, public health incidents and social security issues.
The official called on the team members and science workers to strengthen theoretical and technological research and become valuable advisors of the government in handling emergencies.
"It's quite important for the governments at various levels to inform the public of emergency response skills so that they can better protect themselves," Hua said.
