font size

Indonesian naval ship "KRI Fatahillah" on Monday recovered six victims of the "KM Senopati Nusantara" shipwreck - three of them dead - in waters near Bawean island off Madura island, a naval spokesman said.

The six victims were found floating in the sea at around noon and were immediately taken aboard for evacuation to a command post in Tuban, East Java, Antara news agency quoted Lt Col Toni Syaiful, spokesman of the Navy's Eastern Fleet Command, as saying.

The three living victims were found in physically precarious condition.

Another naval ship, the "KRI Pulau Rimau", meanwhile, found one survivor of the KM Senopati Nusantara shipwreck in waters north of Tuban.

Toni said the Navy had deployed seven ships, one helicopter, two Nomad and one Cessna aircraft to help in search and rescue efforts.

The KM Senoprati Nusntara with more than 500 passengers on board sank in waters near Mandalika Island, off the Jepara coast, early Saturday morning.
