Italian industrial group Fiat auto sales jump 14 percent

Italian industrial group Fiat Auto new car sales in Italy jumped 14 percent last year, over 2005, allowing it to increase its market share in one year from 27.97 percent to 30.73 percent.

Italian auto market sources said Fiat group sales in December rose 0.93 percent over the same month in 2005, bringing its market share for the month to 30.32 percent, down from 31.13 percent in November.

New car sales in general fell 2.55 percent last month, over December 2005, but were up 3.74 percent for 2006 over the previous year.

According to the transportation ministry, a total of 2,321,099 new cars were registered in 2006 and 713,338 were from the Fiat Auto group.
